INCREASE THE COMPETENCE OF LECTURERS, THE AGRIBUSINESS STUDY PROGRAM CONDUCT WORKSHOP

The Agribusiness Study Program at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) held a Workshop with the theme “Application of Structural Equation Modeling Methods in Studying Agricultural Socio-Economic Phenomena in the VUCA Era” Wednesday (21/9).

Held in the Prof. Arifin Sallatang Meeting Room, 3rd Floor. Presenting the presenter Professor of Rural Development Economics, Prof. Ir. Muslim Salam, M.Ec., Ph.D., which was attended by 21 lecturers and teaching staff of Agribusiness. The existence of this activity aims to improve the competence of Agribusiness lecturers related to the modeling of Agricultural Socio-Economic phenomena.

Discusses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) which is a multivariate statistical analysis method, namely confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis. On the occasion, Prof. Muslim said that SEM has 3 simultaneous activities that are useful for solving multilevel models simultaneously that cannot be solved by linear regression equations.

Furthermore, “The three activities are checking the validity and reliability of the instrument (confirmatory factor analysis), testing the relationship model between variables (path analysis), and getting a suitable model for prediction (structural model analysis and regression analysis),” explained Prof. Muslim.

To perform SEM data processing more easily, you can use the help of statistical software such as Lisrel, AMOS, and SmartPLS. However, the software for SEM analysis that is often used is SmartPLS.

“SmartPLS is able to test formative and reflective SEM models with different indicator measurement scales in one model. Whatever the scale form (ratio, category, Likert, etc.) can be tested in one model,” said Prof. Muslim.

At the end of the opportunity, he hopes that the Agribusiness Study Program in the future can have a Trademark in Research. “The first thing to do is to strengthen the ability in Quantitative Analysis,” he concluded.
