Unhas Agribusiness Study Program Held a Community Service in Polewali Mandar, West Sulawesi

Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University held a community service activity located in Polewali Mandar, West Sulawesi. This community service activity carries the topic “Strengthening the Capacity of Farmers and Cocoa Institutions Based on Technology, Information and Communication (ICT)”.

This activity was held for two days starting on July 15-16, 2023 and was also attended by the Director of Mitra Agribisnis Mandiri Cooperative. The activity was filled with material presentation from Dr. Ir. Muh. Hatta Jamil, S.P. M.Si. In his presentation, the lecturer who currently also serves as the head of the Unhas Agribusiness Master Program conveyed the importance of strengthening institutions, especially in Cocoa institutions where cooperation with farmers can encourage the use of farmers’ resources to be more efficient.

Another discussion was also presented by the Head of the Unhas Agribusiness Study Program Dr. A. Nixia Tenriawaru, S.P., M.Si. about strengthening the capacity of farmers based on ICT. Basically, ICT can be used by humans to facilitate various jobs by implementing the implementation of technology and information systems. The synergy between farmers and institutions is important because the problem of farmer capacity cannot be separated from the role of institutional capacity and this can be supported by the application of ICT.

This community service activity is expected to strengthen cocoa institutions and increase the capacity of farmers based on Technology, Information, and Communication. By increasing the capacity of farmers and institutions in agriculture, it is expected that farmers can be better prepared including in facing global competition.
