The Faculty of Agriculture was established as the 7th faculty at Hasanuddin University, on August 17, 1962. Initially, this faculty had 3 departments, namely Agricultural Company, Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Extension. As an effort by the government to adjust the departments registered with the Directorate of Higher Education (Dikti), in 1988 the Department of Agricultural Company and the Department of Agricultural Extension were merged into the Department of Agricultural Social Economics with one study program called the Agricultural Social Economics Study Program. At that time, this study program had four sub-programs, namely: Agrosystem Management, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension and Family Welfare Science. In 1994, the Agricultural Socio-Economic Study Program changed its name to the Agricultural Socio-Economic / Agribusiness Study Program.

Based on the results of the Meeting of the Communication Forum of Indonesian Agricultural Universities (FKPTPI) which was strengthened by the issuance of the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 163 / DIKTI / Kep / 2007, concerning the Arrangement and Codification of Study Programs at Higher Education, the Socio-Economic Agriculture / Agribusiness Study Program changed its name to the Agribusiness Study Program. After the accreditation system was implemented in higher education since 1994, the Agribusiness Study Program (at that time still called the Agricultural Socio-Economic/Agribusiness Study Program) in 1998 obtained an accreditation rating of “B” based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) No. 02276/Ak-11.1/UHCSTE/XII/1998, dated December 22, 1998. This “B” accreditation was maintained in 2007 through BAN-PT Decree No.008/BAN-PT/Ak-X/IV/2007 dated April 4, 2007.

Improvements in the quality of education continue to be pursued until in 2012 the Study Program successfully obtained an “A” accreditation rating through BAN-PT Decree No. 022/BAN-PT/Ak-XV/S1/VII/2012 dated July 27, 2012. The “A” accreditation rating was again maintained in 2017 through Decree No. 3340/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S1/IX/2017, dated September 12, 2017. Following up on BAN-PT Regulation No. 2 of 2020, this study program submitted a proposal for conversion of the accreditation rating and successfully obtained an “Excellent” Accreditation rating based on BAN-PT Decree No. 5800/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-Ppj/S/VIII/2022, dated August 30, 2022. In supporting Hasanuddin University towards World Class University, in 2018 the Agribusiness Study Program obtained certification from Asean University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) with certificate number AP362UNHASNOV18, dated December 29, 2018. In 2024, UNHAS Agribusiness Study Program seeks to obtain the opportunity to achieve FIBAA international accreditation as a strategic step in achieving its vision of becoming a reliable and superior study program at the international level.
