ASSOC. PROF. FROM UPM INTRODUCES THE CONCEPT OF FARM-TO-FORK & SUSTAINABILITY IN A PUBLIC LECTURE HELD BY THE UNHAS AGRIBUSINESS STUDY PROGRAM Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University held a public lecture with the topic “Farm-to-Fork Sustainability: Marketing Strategies and Supply Chain Innovations in Agribusiness” delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nitty Hirawaty from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This event took place in Lecture Theatre 6 which was hosted directly by Mrs. Ni Made Viantika, S.P., M.Agb. as the moderator. In this public lecture, Nitty Hirawaty outlined the concept of Farm-to-Fork Sustainability as a comprehensive and integrated approach to building a more sustainable and ethical food supply chain system. “This approach not only changes the way food is produced and distributed, but also relies on effective marketing strategies to communicate these values, creating a more sustainable and resilient agribusiness ecosystem,” she said. She also added that the benefits of this approach include healthier food, environmental sustainability, improved local economy, support for local farmers, new pathways to clean diets, and wiser land use. The public lecture was attended by the Chairperson of the Agribusiness Study Program, Unhas, Prof. A. Nixia Tenriawaru; Professor of Agricultural Economics, Prof. Rahim Darma; Professor of Agricultural Communication and Extension, Prof. Muh. Hatta Jamil; as well as other lecturers and students of the Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University. The enthusiasm of the participants can be seen from the various questions from both lecturers and students, showing their interest in the application of the Farm-to-Fork concept in agribusiness. UNHAS AGRIBUSINESS STUDY PROGRAM INVITES STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE AGRICULTURAL POLICY INNOVATION SEMINAR The Agribusiness Study Program, Hasanuddin University held a student seminar in the context of an agricultural policy innovation writing competition. The event took place at Lecture Theater 6, Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University. The seminar was attended by the Head of the Agribusiness Study Program, Prof. A. Nixia Tenriawaru, lecturers and students of Hasanuddin University, as well as the Chairman of AAI Sulselbar, Prof. Muh. Hatta Jamil who gave a welcoming speech and opened the activity. Remarks were also delivered by the President Director of BULOG as well as Professor of Agribusiness IPB and former Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Bayu Krisnamurthi through video playback. In his speech, Prof. Bayu delivered an inspiring message. “We need reliable thinkers and leaders in the future, and among those thinkers and leaders are today’s students. I am very happy and supportive of the discussion that will be held and hope that from this discussion brilliant breakthroughs will be born that can solve our problems.” The event involved presentations from five groups of Hasanuddin University students from various study programs. These groups were the best-written participants who had been assessed and had the opportunity to present their ideas at the seminar. At the end of the event, the five participants were awarded cash prizes, shirts, and a book written by Prof. Bayu Krisnamurthi. IMPROVING STUDENT’S KNOWLEDGE IN HORTICULTURAL FARMING, AGRIBUSINESS STUDY PROGRAM HELD A FIELD PRACTICUM Students of the Agribusiness Study Program at Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) have held a Field Practice of Farm Management Course in Tonasa Village, Gowa Regency. This activity is part of the study program curriculum to provide practical experience to students in agriculture and make a positive contribution to the community in the area. “This field practice is specifically for Unhas Agribusiness Study Program Students in Farm Management Subjects, which totals around 180 students. Field practice is held for two days and one night and will take data from farmers in Tonasa Village, especially on carrot and cabbage commodities, “explained the lecturer of the Unhas Agribusiness Management Course, Mrs. Dr. Saadah, M.Si. The arrival of the Unhas Agribusiness students was warmly welcomed by the Secretary of Tonasa Village. “In this village, the majority of the population are farmers, about 75%. UNHAS AGRIBUSINESS PROGRAM DISTRIBUTES DURIAN SEEDS TO TAMAONA VILLAGE The Agribusiness Study Program at Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) conducted a community service program in Tamaona Village, Gowa Regency, by donating durian seedlings to local farmers. This activity aims to make a tangible contribution to improving the welfare of the community through the development of the durian commodity sector. The event was attended by lecturers and students from the Agribusiness Study Program at UNHAS, as well as local government officials and residents of Tamaona Village. In this program, the Agribusiness Study Program at UNHAS fostered collaboration between lecturers, alumni, and students in donating Musang King durian seedlings to farmers in Tamaona Village. The donated durian seedlings were selected based on high-quality criteria and had good production potential. “We hope that Tamaona Village can become a foster village for the Agribusiness Program, which, InsyaAllah, will be followed up. May this program mark the beginning of our cooperation,” said Prof. Nixia, Head of the Agribusiness Study Program at UNHAS. A prominent figure in Tamaona Village also expressed appreciation for the donation of durian seedlings and collaboration with the Agribusiness Study Program at UNHAS. “We hope that this donation of seedlings will bring blessings to Tamaona Village. VISITING PROFESSOR FROM UNIVERSITY OF COLOMBO SHARES SOME INSIGHTS AT UNHAS AGRIBUSINESS STUDY PROGRAM Makassar, Indonesia – October 30, 2023 – Agribusiness Study Program, Hasanuddin University had the honor of welcoming Professor Nishantha from the University of Colombo. The esteemed professor visited the Agribusiness Study Program, where he engaged with students and faculty members in a series of insightful discussions. During his visit, Professor Nishantha expressed his gratitude towards his hosts. “I’d like to mention Prof. Muh. Arsyad from the Agribusiness Study Program, Hasanuddin University, who invited me on behalf of the faculty and university,” he said, acknowledging the efforts made to facilitate his visit. UNHAS AGRIBUSINESS STUDY PROGRAM HELD COMMUNITY SERVICE AT INPRES KERA-KERA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN ORDER TO FOSTER AN ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT AMONG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University carried out community service activities on October 28, 2023 which took place at SD Inpres Kera-Kera, Makassar City. This activity was attended by lecturers and educational staff of the Unhas Agribusiness Study Program as well as the Principal, teachers and students of SD Inpres Kera-Kera. This community service carries the topic of Developing an Entrepreneurial spirit through the utilization of School Resources to Support SD Inpres Kera-Kera as an Adiwiyata Model school. This event was opened with remarks from the Head of the Hasanuddin University Agribusiness Study Program, Prof. Dr. A. Nixia Tenriawaru, S.P, M.Si. In her speech, Prof. Nixia said “It has become an obligation for us Agribusiness Study Program, Department of Agricultural Social Economics Unhas to carry out community service. Alhamdulillah, we chose this location, one of the considerations is the location of the school which is quite close so it is easy for us to visit regularly” The event continued with a presentation from one of the Unhas Agribusiness lecturers, Dr. Letty Fudjaja, S.P., M.Si., a lecturer who teaches Entrepreneurship Courses in various Study Programs at the Faculty of Agriculture Unhas conveyed the importance of new ideas in doing business. “In starting a business we need ideas and new things that are different. We must have uniqueness, have superior value. Like hydroponics, everyone can make hydroponics but what difference can we give. For example, it can be in the form of service innovation where we make it easier for customers to get our products. The most important thing is how the product is able to answer the problems of our customers.” Head of Agribusiness Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University Prof. Dr. Ir. Rahim Darma, M.S added in his presentation about the benefits of business for students and school teachers. “We can make business as an educational tool for children. Even if the teachers are interested, it can be a joint business so that each of them has experience and knowledge,” explained Prof. Rahim in another material he presented in this activity about vertical farming based on school / household resources. Principal of SD Inpres Kera-kera, Mrs. Zarkiyah Thahir thanked the Agribusiness Study Program, Hasanuddin University for coming to share knowledge and establish cooperation with SD Inpres Kera-Kera. “We are very happy with this program. We consider Unhas as a mentoring institution that is able to guide us to be better and more innovative”. HELD A PUBLIC LECTURE ON AGRICULTURAL POLICY INNOVATION IN INDONESIA, UNHAS AGRIBUSINESS STUDY PROGRAM PRESENTED PROF. BAYU KRISNAMURTHI AS A SPEAKER Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University has held a public lecture on agribusiness policy innovation for food stabilization on Thursday (21/09/2023) at LT 6 Faperta Unhas. This event was also attended by the Dean and Deputy Dean for Partnership, Research and Innovation of Faperta Unhas, representatives of the Indonesian Agribusiness Association (AAI), Agricultural Economics Association (PERHEPI), Indonesian Agricultural Bachelor Association (PISPI), lecturers and undergraduate and graduate students of Agribusiness Unhas. This public lecture was delivered directly by the former Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia for the period 2009-2011 as well as Professor of Agribusiness IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Bayu Krisnamurthi, M.S.. The activity began with remarks by the Dean of Faperta Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. Salengke, M.Sc then continued with the presentation of public lecture material and question and answer sessions by public lecture participants. In his lecture, Prof. Bayu Krisnamurthi conveyed the importance of food for humans. “Food is a matter of our sustainability, our sustainability as humans”. From the BSI, Mr. Ir. A. Hatta Tajang, head of BSI Makassar branch, Ms. Andi Wini, finance department, and Mr. Ridho. After the meeting was opened by the Head of the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economic Affairs, Dr. A. Nixia Tenriawaru, from BSI, was then given the opportunity to present his presentation regarding Islamic banks, prospects for cooperation, and forms of service to lecturers and institutions. After continuing with a discussion session, the study program also offered collaboration opportunities to BSI to teach students the practice of financial/financing management considering that many of the alumni of Agribusiness Unhas continued their careers in the banking sector. Furthermore, Bayu Krisnamurthi explained that policy innovation for food stabilization is a continuous process that needs to answer challenges and solve problems from time to time by anticipating future conditions and needs. Food and agricultural growth is needed to anticipate increased demand, be sustainable and have resilience to changing conditions and situations such as climate change, resource constraints, pandemics, geopolitics, supply chain disruptions and policy changes. The activity was closed with a challenge given by Prof. Bayu Krisnamurthi to Agribusiness Unhas students to make writing about “Innovative policy proposals” which will be competed in the framework of World Food Day in collaboration between the Agribusiness Unhas Study Program, AAI and Bulog. This competition is expected to foster awareness and encourage students to contribute to agribusiness policy innovation as an integral part of food stabilization which concerns the sustainability of humanity in the future. ALUMNI SHARED SOME ADVICE FOR NEW STUDENTS OF THE 2023 AGRIBUSINESS STUDY PROGRAM IN FACING THE CAMPUS LIFE Hasanuddin University Agribusiness Study Program carried out new student admission in 2023 on Wednesday, (16/8). This student admission is part of a series of activities Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) Hasanuddin University Year 2023 which took place since Monday (14/8). This event aims to introduce the Department of Agricultural Social Economics, Agribusiness Study Program, Hasanuddin University to new students in 2023 which includes the introduction of lecturers and staff of the agribusiness study program along with the profile of graduates, introduction to academic activities, introduction to co-curricular and student organizations. This event was also attended by alumni from the Agricultural Social Economics of Hasanuddin University, namely Ilham Arief Sirajuddin, Hatta Tadjang and Ilmi Ikhsan. They conveyed several things and gave some advice and insight to new students about important things. On his occasion, Mr. Ilham Arief Sirajuddin, who is the former mayor of Makassar City, explained the importance of expanding relationships for a student. “When you go to college, don’t limit your space. Expand your relationships, because the more interactions you have, the more information you will get”. Mr. Hatta Tadjang and Ilmi Ikhsan also conveyed other important things that students need to achieve during their time as students such as hard skills, soft skills, attitude, growth mindset, character and so on. DIGGING A POTENTIAL COLLABORATION, UNHAS AGRIBUSINESS STUDY PROGRAM VISITED UNIVERSITY PUTRA MALAYSIA Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University visited the University of Putra Malaysia (UPM) on Thursday, (03/08) for international curriculum alignment benchmarking program. This activity aims to review the curriculum structure of the Faculty of Agriculture UPM which is currently ranked 123rd QS World University Rankings The Head of Agribusiness Study Program, Hasanuddin University, Dr. A. Nixia Tenriawaru, S.P., M.Si. conveyed several things about this visit. “The visit to UPM aims to review several things, namely reviewing the curriculum format and learning system implemented by the Faculty of Agriculture at UPM and reviewing the research collaboration model and article writing which led to the agreement of cooperation between the Hasanuddin University Agribusiness Study Program and the UPM Faculty of Agriculture.” In the process, this activity was filled with a presentation about the profile of each study program of the Faculty of Agriculture from UPM and Unhas. Furthermore, the two parties discussed the potential for collaboration in the tri dharma of higher education that can be established by UPM and Unhas such as joint publications, student exchanges, visiting lecturers between universities and double degree programs. UNHAS AGRIBUSINESS STUDY PROGRAM CONDUCTS BENCHMARKING AT UNDIP FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS FOR FIBAA INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITATION The Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University visited the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Diponegoro University on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. This visit was carried out as part of the FIBAA (The Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation) International Accreditation program. This visit was attended by the FIBAA Task Force, Lecturers and Education Personnel from the Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University and Lecturers from FEB Diponegoro University. This activity is intended to increase the insight and understanding of the Agribusiness Study Program, Hasanuddin University in improving and refining the Self Evaluation Report (SER) for FIBAA Accreditation, especially in the aspects of international orientation and minority issues, related to representation and facilities for disabilities in education, including quality assurance and quality improvement as an effort for study programs in internationalization.
